ok I still have my jtag from the Surfboard SB5100s days but haven't used it in over 3 years. I am learning networking and want to learn how to test equipment in collaboration with my ISP's equipment.
Years ago one could simply could clone macs and then create one paid account and use cloned modems on different nodes. So in theory could the same thing work with Docsis 3.0 modems? There only seems to be 3 ways a CM will function when it is connected to the ISPs coaxial cable:
1. If it is a Mac that is not active or banned on their network one would get the Activation page
2. If the Mac is banned the onscreen message will say contact the ISP to resolve an issue with the account or the Online light will never go solid
3. If the mac is active the modem will go online and function unless there is a collision with another device that has that same mac on the same node. Macs are on layer 2 and unique to each node so taking a cloned mac and putting it on a different node should result in both CMs going online.
If I am totally wrong then teach me how to do this because I can't afford to test and pay $100 a month to stream Kodi.
